Come with us, and we will provide you with a safe and therapeutic atmosphere in which to find connection and resilience.

What is Group Therapy?

Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy where several people attend the same session led by one or more therapists. Our mental health therapists are experts in group training. The size of the session varies; it may include a few people or 20 or more. The group may be open or closed.

In open groups, patients can join whenever they can. New members can join at any time. Some members might be fresh, and some might be experienced. Our team of experts will guide you in choosing the best option.

In closed groups, members are asked to register for group sessions beforehand. Members in one group usually have the same set of problems. The group looks more like a classroom.

Our group therapy sessions are like groupthink tanks. Supportive and empathetic connections are healing. Through our group therapy sessions, you meet people who validate your emotions.

Our therapists keep your feelings and emotions confidential. We give you exceptional care.

Group therapy is as effective as one-to-one therapy. So you do not have to doubt the transformative impact of group therapy.

How Does Group Therapy Help?

Our main support system for group therapy is peer support. Peer support plays a huge part in the healing process. The mutuality of struggles and challenges between peers promotes connections and inspires hope.

Bringing people in group therapy sessions to fight common challenges helps in several ways:

  • Increased sense of control and ability to bring change in their lives
  • Increased self-esteem and confidence
  • Increased sense of hope and aspiration
  • Raised empowerment scores
  • Increased empathy and acceptance

Group therapy helps to challenge your preconceived notions. It helps you thrive and grow. People learn more about their behavior, attitudes, and feelings after listening and interacting with others. This increased self-awareness helps overcome the mental blocks that hinder their peace and healing.

Our group therapy sessions are magical. You walk in with the burdens of your struggles and walk out with light shoulders.

Who can benefit from group therapy?

Group therapy sessions include bringing together members with similar experiences and struggles. People from different backgrounds bring diversity to the group. You can hear more than one perspective about the same struggles.

It may focus on a group with the same mental health condition, such as:

  • Depression
  • Substance use disorder
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Social anxiety
  • Phobias
  • Panic disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Generalized anxiety disorder

Group therapy also helps with

  • Grief in case of loss of a loved one or a break-up, divorce
  • Obesity
  • Chronic pain
  • Weight loss
  • Anger management
  • Chronic illness
  • Cultural trauma
  • Domestic violence

What to Expect in Group Therapy?

The session starts with a short introduction of each member so they can get comfortable within the group. This is called ice breaking.

The therapist starts the session by introducing a topic or theme for the day. Everyone is encouraged to share personal stories, thoughts, and feelings on the chosen subject.

The interactive conversations within the group create a feeling of connection and support. Your therapist ensures that all members can voice their ideas and opinions.

Some exercises can be included in group sessions.  It is a great way to increase participation and provide practical insights.

Members take time at the end of the group session for reflection and discussion. This is the time for a meaningful conclusion. It gives a sense of accomplishment as well as an opportunity for personal reflection.

Spent over 2 months here. Great therapy, excellent staff who truly care. I would not be who I am or where I’m at without the help I received here. Taking the suggestions given to me here helped me in more ways than a simple Google review can say. I love you all!

Olympic Behavioral Health is hands down one of the best treatment facilities in the southern Florida region. Majority of their staff are addicts in recovery themselves so the level of compassion is truly amazing. Not only are they a business that makes you feel loved like you’re family but they also provide you with the tools needed to go back out into the world and live a productive sober life. Chances are if your reading this then your probably in the same shoes I was in early last year so therefore I urge you to get in touch with an admissions rep asap Meg or Kelsey. PS- If either of you ladies get a chance to read this i just want to say I miss y’all so friggin much.

Olympic truly saved me. Meg came and recruited me from detox and really took me under her wing. The clinical team is amazing, truly cares and wants to help you get and stay sober. They have our best interest at heart. They introduced me to AA and urged me to get a sponsor. I found a sponsor and completed my 12 steps and am now living a true healthier happier life. Olympic gave me the knowledge and the experiences I need to implement in my everyday life. I am blessed and grateful i got to be a part of Olympic.
